ISA CLEVELAND SECTION PROGRAM

“Big Data” and Instrumentation Engineering

Come and meet others of like interests for an enjoyable and informative session on the latest tools in the Instrument Engineer’s toolbox.  We will be exploring “Big Data” as it is applied to Instrumentation Engineering.   We will be especially focused on “Data” with respect to new construction activities, whether greenfield or revamps to existing installations.  During the short time we have you will be acquainted with virtual 3D electronic construction models, 3D scanning for use with the model, and the instrument engineer’s integrated engineering design suite of data base tools.  The basic data base tool discussed will be Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).  All these tools will allow a more comprehensive use of data to ensure proper installation of instrumentation and easier commissioning efforts.  It also allows the designer to generate instrument lists, instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, junction boxes and other design documents from one data set thus ensuring consistency of design and ease of checking.  At the end of the project, using VPN technologies during the design, the “turn over” of documentation is minimized.  Thus, documentation of field installations is current and not “lost”.  Live demonstrations will be used as part of the presentation.

Presenters:  Pawel Rozycki is an experienced Senior Instrumentation Engineering Designer for Middough, Inc. in Middough’s office located in the Play House Square district of Cleveland, Ohio.  He has years of experience with Middough developing instrumentation design and installation details.  He is a key person at Middough in the use of SPI, 3D models, AutoCad, and advanced engineering IT technologies.  Facilitating this review session will be Dennis Fundzak, PE, manager of Middough’s Cleveland office Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group.
