Going Green, Building Green
Presentation Summary:
This will be a two part presentation. The first part will address the current
state of sustainable energy in the Northeast Ohio region and its future. The
speaker, Holly Harlan, is the founder and Executive Director for Entrepreneurs
for Sustainability (E4S). E4S is a business network in the Greater Cleveland
area oriented towards sustainability with the goal of encouraging economic
development and startup businesses. The organization is growing, with 5800
members in 2008. Companies associated with the group include Bio-Diesel
Cleveland, Sustainable Solutions and a green building consultant firm.
Non-profit organizations associated with the group include Eco-City Cleveland
(which has merged into the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as the Green City
Blue Lake Institute), Green Energy Ohio, and the Cleveland Green Building
Coalition.
The second part will discuss specifically what companies can do now to “build
green” and how this will impact their profitability. His presentation will
address the reasons, features and standards for “sustainable” design. One of
their many projects was the design of Ben Venue’s Cleveland facility earning a
USGBC Silver LEED Certification. The speaker, Bill Doty is one of the Principals
of Doty and Miller an A&E firm which specializes in the design and
implementation of “green” and LEED Certification projects. Location:
