Cedar Point Tour: Behind the scenes
This tour will walk us through “behind the scenes” of
modern high tech rides such as the Millenium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Power
Tower, etc. at Cedar Point. Get a close-up look and description of the
design and operation of the controls and instrumentation used in these rides.
Electrical Engineer, Larry Shivak and Mechanical Engineer, Eric Lapp
will conduct the tour. Larry is Manager, Electrical Systems and has been with Cedar
Point since June 2007. Eric is Supervisor, Ride Maintenance and has been with
Cedar Point since April 2005.
Notes from the Tour:
Two years ago we were amazed at the decorations and displays set up around the park just for Halloween. We were also impressed with the skull set on the arch between Frontierland and the main area. Also, many of the trees had lights wrapped around the trunks. It must look spook-tacular at night. Cedar Point does not run the water rides at this time of year, but we were told they run the rest of them. It looked like they had special Halloween programs in the Red Garter Saloon too. Inside the Fun House, they had cobwebs, skulls and all kinds of other spooky displays.
The hydraulics for the Top Thrill Dragster were gigantic! The pictures don't do it justice. The computer keeps a history so that they know how much thrust is needed to get the cars up and over depending on the weight load and weather conditions. The quantities of proximity sensors were incredible.
