ABSTRACT:
SELAS Heat
Technology Company: Recognized as one of the true pioneers in the industry,
Selas has a combustion heritage that is approaching 120 years. Passionate about
combustion, SELAS began with gas lamps then expanded its innovations into a full
offering of combustion components and eventually transitioned itself into a
leader of heat processing furnaces. With this growth, SELAS built up its team of
talent to invent and engineer many proprietary burners and other technologies,
including our press and fired ceramics burners. The tour will cover the high
temperature batch kiln operation, regulator assembly, and package burner fire
test areas. The batch kilns are Honeywell HC900 controlled and interlocked with
the company intranet for control. The regulator assembly area is a great example
of old and new techniques. We are in the process of creating a new station using
updated controls to complete testing and create serialized quality control
inspection sheets for each regulator. The package burner fire test is an example
of new Siemens PLC control of a burner to improve turn-down rate and efficiency.
Bio:
The tour will be led by Chris Vandegrift and Dan Curry.
Chris Vandegrift is Vice President of Engineering and Quality. He has worked in
a broad spectrum of industries including power plant operation, high speed
manufacturing, medical devices, job shop and batch production operations. He
enjoys using technology to eliminate wasted time and effort in any manufacturing
step. Chris holds a BS in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Akron, an MBA from the University of
Pittsburgh, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio.
Dan
Curry is Engineering Manager. Dan has 38 years of combustion related experience
in product research, application, development and management of industrial
burners, burner control systems, temperature controls and combustion systems. He
is active in committees for safety standards (NFPA, ISO, CSA) and contributes to
collaborative publications for the industrial heating market. Dan graduated from
the University of North Texas with a BS in Physics.
